Tenants vote for landlord switch
April 2008
Council tenants in Merthyr Tydfil have voted ‘yes’ to transfer, following a communications campaign led by The Bridge Group.
The vote will see tenants switch to a new not-for-profit Registered Social Landlord, Merthyr Valleys Homes, and will unlock a £69.5 million programme to improve homes and neighbourhoods over the next five years.
The Bridge Group has been supporting the council to ensure that tenants were well-informed about the options in the run up to the ballot.
Richard Lovelace, executive director, said: “We have been delighted to support the council in giving its tenants a say about the future of their homes. The ‘yes’ vote sees the start of the biggest programme of improvements ever seen locally which is exciting for all in the community.
“We look forward to continuing to work with Merthyr Valleys Homes and seeing the plans become reality.”
Robert Davies, head of housing at Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council, said: “The Bridge Group’s expertise in this field has been an invaluable resource over the past year. It has enabled them to tailor a comprehensive communications programme to the needs of Merthyr tenants and to effectively communicate the transfer proposal. It’s great to see tenants supporting the transfer.”
