A Coventry-based PR agency is bridging the gap between the corporate and volunteer world, by donating time to promote the volunteering cause.
During National Volunteer week (1-7 June) staff at The Bridge Group will be heading out to local businesses to deliver leaflets and raise awareness about the benefits of volunteering.
More than 50% of the staff have a regular commitment to giving up their time to help others, including volunteer roles at The Jesus Army Centre and local 2438 (Bishop Ullathorne) Air Cadet Squadron, with all employees donating some time in the past year to support good causes.
The idea to support the week is the brainchild of office manager Veronica Tillman who volunteers on average 12 hours a week to support local air cadets. She said: “Volunteering does take up a lot of my non-work time, but there is nothing more rewarding than seeing the cadets’ faces after their first air experience flight or hearing them say how amazing the trek for their Duke of Edinburgh awards was.
“It would be fantastic if we could encourage other Coventry residents to consider giving their time to a cause they are passionate about.”
National Volunteers’ Week is an annual event which celebrates the contribution that millions of volunteers make across the UK. The week plays a huge part in raising the profile of millions of volunteers who regularly contribute to society, while inspiring others to get involved too.
According to Volunteering England, 2008/09 71 per cent of adults volunteered in some way with 47 per cent volunteering at least once a month.
Managing director Nicola Winn, who is working on a volunteer project to support the Make a Wish Foundation, said: “As a company we have a nominated annual charity, but we also thought it was appropriate to mark the time that many of our staff donate to support local organisations.
