Live performance at The Xcellence Factor

October 2008

Delegates at The Xcellence Factor, a Welsh housing conference, tuned into the world of online networking thanks to The Bridge Group.

The session focused on how online social networks, such as facebook, myspace and bebo can be used by housing organisations and councils to help communications hit the right note.

Looking at examples such as the online campaign to bring back the Cadbury’s Wispa bar, the workshop explored ways of using online networks to meet the needs of customers, stakeholders and staff. Ideas ranged from advertising vacant homes to running recruitment campaigns and sounding out customers’ views through two-way consultation.

The workshop was held as part of the Chartered Institute of Housing Cymru Leadership and Customer Excellence Conference and Exhibition 2008, which took place in Llandudno.

Ian Hembrow, senior consultant ran the session. He said: “About 80 per cent of delegates at the session already used social networking sites at home. But only one organisation had developed this kind of facility in a professional context. Social networks are now widely used by private sector organisations and there are many opportunities for the public sector to follow their success.”
